Welcome

Come in, come in. Welcome to the HCCU blog. It is my honour and privilege to introduce you to this new aspect of the Credit Union. Now I’m sure many of you have heard of a blog. It’s been mentioned in every paper, magazine, and news cast over the last few years. It was even deemed the word of the year in 2004. But you still may be asking what is a blog exactly.

Well blog is short for web log, and is a journal written by one or many, posted online for the users of the world wide web to view. Blogs can be used to provide commentary or news on a particular subject, or as a more personal online diary. They can be made up of text, pictures, videos, and links to other pertinent information.

So what does a blog have to do with your Credit Union?

A blog provides a unique forum that all have access to where we can relate to one another. It provides a place where we can bring you inside the Credit Union environment and communicate on the behind the scenes. We can keep you up to date on the day to day, and help you get to know your Credit Union on a more personal level. And with the ability for readers to leave comments being an important part of a blog, we’ll be able to connect in a way not possible before.

In a word, a blog has the power to bring community to The Hamilton Community Credit Union.

I look forward to this experience. I hope you do too.

As a new informational outlet, good luck and much success. However, one would hope that the personal face to face interaction between members and staff would always remain the number one means of communication. Kudos to the Hamilton Community Credit Union staff for serving us members so well with their warm, inviting, personalized touch in conversations as we conduct our business. Thanks!!

Great idea! Many questions only require a quick answer and this can save a trip in or trying to get an answer by phone.

Very nice idea to have a Blog. I'm very proud to be a member in a time of change for the Credit Union. I love the idea of being part of the "exchange" I recently moved to BC and want to keep my membership with HCCU. I was impressed that VanCity did not charge me a fee for withdrawing out of my HCCU account. However HCCU still charged me $1.25 I thought the exchange was free???

The exchange network does eliminate the additional service charge that is usually added on by each individual institution.

For instance, if you were to use a Royal Bank terminal to withdrawal $20 you would see it come through your account as $21.50 and then you would see the interac fee of $1.25. Royal Bank charged you that additional $1.50. However, when you use an ATM on The Exchange Network the transaction comes through your account without any additional fees, example - for $20, but you still have the fee of $1.25 for using your interac card.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Should a member while out of town wish to use the facilities of one of these "the exchange" or "accel pos" outlets, what hccu fees will we still incur for any of the transactions in canada/usa? Does our current hccu debit card work at these outlets or must we get a new card? Is this service only meant to be used at an ATM or can transactions be conducted inside these outlets too?

There seems to be quite a few questions regarding The Exchange network. Look for a new post on Thursday addressing all the questions that have come about from this issue.
